No Man’s Sky Beyond First Impressions

Started a new game. The new storyline is nice, and ties everything in together. It shows off the new stuff well.

You bet I sat down, as soon as I got the chance.

The graphics have gotten a little worse. It’s not bad, but there’s lots of pop-in, and even some pop-out. It’s not that bad, I guess. Definitely not Fallout 76 bad, but definitely worse than it was before Beyond.

So far, I’m liking the revisions to base-building and crafting. There seem to be a couple of glitches with pinning recipes, but for the most part, the new pinning system is really sweet. If you pin the recipe for a larger item, the objective that pops up in the corner breaks down the individual steps. For example, if you need to build metal plating as a step for something larger like a refiner, then the objective in the corner focuses on making the metal plating and then goes on to the next step, and so on. Makes building a little easier.

Movement seems a little more refined, too, probably due to the VR upgrade.

I started a new save to experience the new storyline, and I’m probably going to make this my main save moving forward. I’ll just redo what I’d done before. I think enough has changed to treat it like a new game.
